The following worked example explains the order in which the calculation process takes place in SiriusWeb and how the different elements are calculated.

	Notes		Worked Example/Selection
1.	All the parameters for the calculation are collected.		Institution: Leeds Staff category: Academic (pre 1992) Salary scale: Lecturer A Spinal point: UAP Point 8 Salary: £22954 FTE: 100% London allowance: £0 Additional allowances = 0 Pension: USS
2.	The costing method is noted (see costing method section).		Standard (include increments+inflation)
3.	Calculations are costed to the nearest day.		01/08/2004 to 05/09/2004
4.	Divide annual salary by 12 to get a whole month.		22954/12=1912.8
5.	To calculate incomplete months (i.e. the five days of September) divide monthly amount by number of days in that month (i.e 30) and multiply by number of days required (eg 5).		(1912.8/30)*5=318.8
6.	Add month total to day total.		1912.8+318.8=2231.6
7.	Inflated salary cost calculated (see Inflation Section).		(where 4.1% is the inflation rate for the year in question)£2231.6 x 1.041 = £2,323
8.	Pension calculated (see pension section).		USS: £325
9.	NI calculated (see NI section).		NI: £171
10.	Add together salary cost, pension and NI.		£2,323+£325+£171=£2819
11.	Adjust by cost %.		100% = £2819
